My Man in Green

I got up early this morning to send the Man off on a different type of excursion.

Blurry 6+am photo

DD is on reservist! What makes this a momentous occasion (befitting the exclamation mark I put at the end of the previous sentence) is the fact that this is the first time ever that he's been called back for reservist. Prior to this, he had 13 good years thinking that he had slipped through the system but alas, it was not to be. He received notification to report for reservist this year much to his dismay and my amusement.

It's not that I take pleasure in his misfortune but it really has been pretty funny seeing him dig out his gear from days gone by and all suited up in uniform! And ok, I have had quite a few laughs at his expense teasing him about all the time he will be spending in the jungle and reminding him that he will not be appreciating the rain as much when he's out in the field.

I am a loving wife. I really am.

But DD's luck has seems to have run out this time. Whereas the majority of friends have described their reservist as being a relaxed time of doing nothing much, from the looks of his schedule, DD's time in the army will be anything but relaxed. It looks like it'll be intense alright. He came back from the briefing they held a month ago telling me that as they were going to the schedule, memories of the different exercises came flooding back. Those exercises were challenging back then, back when he was, you know, really fit and stuff. Many years (and kilos) later now, it's going to be TOUGH.

Whatever the case, I'm sure he'll handle it just fine. This man of mine enjoyed his time in the army, which, incidentally, underscores some of the things I love about him. I don't like slackers or whingers and he is neither. I know he is really looking forward to getting on a bike again, which is probably the highlight of his 2 weeks. And at least he was released to come home this evening though he will have to book back in at some unseemly hour tomorrow morning.

In the meantime, I'll be single-parenting for the next 2 weeks! I thankfully will have the able assistance of my helper, but I will miss having DD to unload to in the evening.

I'm looking forward to the weekend already and it's only Monday! Help!

  2. What unit is DD in? Shane's in the bomb disposal or something like that so every time there is a big event like this YOG he'll be called up.

I like men in uniform. Lol. If I weren't in teaching I would be working in the armed forces.

  3. lyn :: wow, that's like twice a year then? and in camp each time? gee, that sucks.

DD is pas A, would you believe? i didn't even realise that till he told me recently. apparently he was told that this training session of his is even higher than the usual high key because they'll be going to aust next year. poor guy.

michelle :: DD in recce. Bomb disposal! That sounds like something that would be right up Shane's alley. Haha. But he'll be called up real often then, seeing how many big events the country keeps trying to host.

  4. I think by right the SAF is supposed to release those with families in the evenings, unless its an overseas exercise?

Anyhow he'll probably enjoy it a lot. My hubby loves to go back, he considers it his paid leave. =)

  5. Daphne :: That's the thing you see. It's not paid leave for him unfortunately -- he's got a really hectic schedule which involves night training and some 36-hour overnight training exercise. Poor guy. But hey, at least he's getting some exercise!

  7. lilsnooze :: he shouldn't be jealous! only if DD got away with it should he be! DD's now paying the price for all that slacking off. haha. and at least tehpeng will finish off his reservist earlier.
