Did you see the huge rainbow in the sky this evening?
We only noticed it in the rear view mirror of the car as we drove home in the evening. Sadly for me, I was driving and so was unable to get more than a glimpse of it through the mirror. But DD tells me that it was virtually a whole arc and possibly the biggest rainbow he had ever seen.
Noey was allowed special dispensation to get out of his car seat to have a look at the rainbow -- the first he has ever laid eyes on. And after exclaiming "Rainbow!", the first thing he immediately said was "God put the rainbow in the sky."
(The result of many many readings of Noah's Ark, no doubt. Can you blame us?? He followed this up with the not-so-grammatically-correct "God made the rainbow put inside the sky." Haha. "God made the..." is one of his favourite startings to a sentence, you see.)
Indeed, as we admire the beauty of the rainbow in the sky, may it bring to mind even more the One who has put it in the sky, and the covenant which God made with Noah all living things that he would never again flood the earth to destroy it.
That must surely lift your spirits more than the mere beauty of the rainbow ever could!

ReplyDelete:))))))
ReplyDeletethis is really random but im a young lawyer who's really curious about how you've managed to balance work and family so well. i find that inspiring. could you share a little on your career path? am in liti but am finding it very taxing. what's the best way to balance it all?
ReplyDeleteWe missed it! But reading the little boy's response to the rainbow put a smile on my face. :)
ReplyDeleteSue:: good to hear from you! :) lucky you to have caught it -- it looks like a beaut in pics.
ReplyDeletecorsage :: :)
anon :: hi there! being a young liti lawyer is very draining -- i can understand how you feel. i made the personal choice to leave practice after 4.5 years and go in-house because i wanted to have more time for my family. the hours are more manageable in-house (unless you work in a bank or similar where the hours are demanding), though there are still hectic periods when projects are on. i took a pay cut, but i have no regrets. when i had my son, i started working part-time to enable me to spend more time with him at home. i guess you should assess your own priorities and see what you are willing to sacrifice to achieve your balance -- pay? career advancement? (in-house career advancement is mostly lateral -- it will be hard to move up unless there is a vacancy) job satisfaction? (my husband for example would be bored out of his wits doing corporate work)
that said, i personally think it's good to stick it out in practice for a few years (4-5 years) cos you learn more in practice and will be in a better position to work more independently if you do move in-house. good luck and hang in there.
mamaJ :: pity! noey loves rainbows -- he's noah after all. haha!
hi! thanks for the advice. that's the plan i have in general, since i'm not married yet. i just wonder whether it's better to do corp now if i'm probably going to go in house. it appears that most companies prefer someone with corporate or finance experience. and in liti, i do more general, broad commercial work. it just doesn't seem as specialized as what many of the companies are looking for. oh well, but i do prefer liti work for the time being. so i guess i'll stay put...!
ReplyDeletehaha! thanks so much for the advice! :) think you're a great role model for young women!
