Four Cow Farm

I was offered the opportunity to try some baby products by Four Cow Farm recently.

Like any other parent, I want the best for my child. In this case, I was very attracted to the fact that Four Cow Farm's creams and balms are made from 100% natural and organic ingredients. Baby skin is delicate and sensitive, so I'm personally uncomfortable with using products with too many chemicals in them on my bubs. Or on myself for that matter. Research is always evolving on the impact of chemical additives and preservatives -- you'll never know when something thought to be safe might in fact turn out to be harmful in some way other other.

Four Cow Farm was started by a Mother and Grandmother (who is also a midwife) who wanted to make creams and balms that were as good and natural as possible for the two little ones in the family. (The Dads helped "a bit", they say!) Delphinia -- the super mum behind these products -- was having issues finding products on the market that were effective on her little daughter's eczema. After trying virtually everything, including the organic brands, to no avail, she, together with her mother-in-law, created their own formulations using old tried and true recipes and "nothing but the best" natural ingredients available. They are very proud of the fact that Four Cow Farm creams and balms use only the safest natural food-grade preservatives and emulsifiers. There are no artificial fragrances and no artificial colours, so what you see is what you get. The colours, textures and fragrances come from the ingredients and nothing else.

Check out the long list of additives that they DON'T use in their products.

I've been using the products on Naomi mostly, and they have been great. My favourite is the Nappy Balm.

As it happened, Naomi was suffering from a case of nappy rash when my Four Cow Farm products came in the mail. I had tried taming it with her usual creams (Avent Baby Bottom Balm and Sebamed Baby Diaper Rash Cream) but they weren't helping. I tried Four Cow Farm's Nappy Balm and within a day, the redness was significantly reduced. Within 3 days, it had completely cleared up. I was so relieved! Since then, I've been using the Nappy Balm in tandem with the Nappy Cream and Naomi's been diaper rash-free for the past month. A word about the Nappy Cream: unlike the usual thick, sticky, pasty creams, this nappy cream is very light and easy to apply. And effective too! Big plus!

I've also freely applied the Nappy Balm (which has anti-bacterial and anti-fungal properties) to the creases of her elbows and under her neck, where she is prone to having some rashes, and it has helped to keep these at bay.

Another item that's made my got-to-have list is the Calendula Remedy. I think the healing properties of calendula are well-known. Soothing on irritated or inflamed skin, I use this on bites and minor scrapes and bruises which Noey gets too regularly for my liking. There are various other calendula creams out in the market, but I understand that Calendula Remedy is the only calendula balm available. Made with 80% calendula-infused oil (versus a usual 20-30% oil in creams), Calendula Remedy is probably the richest calendula product on the market. I keep this in the fridge and Noey now knows to walk to the fridge for this when he's got a scrape.

I've used it myself too when I get bites and it really helps soothe the itch.

Calendula is also great for treating dry skin, or skin irritations like eczema.

You can check out the products and others in their range at their website here : http://www.fourcowfarm.com. They also have a blog where they post many insightful posts on nutrition, eczema, and research on the dangers or additives/chemicals which can, unfortunately, be found in baby products these days.

While you're at it, don't forget to like Four Cow Farm's Facebook Page. Aside from links to interesting articles, they also occasionally have special discounts for Facebook fans.

We have a special treat this month for blog readers! From now till 30 September 2011, you can enjoy a 15% discount on all items on the Four Cow Farm Singapore Online Shop by using the code SMALLTHINGS. Purchases above $35 are also entitled to FREE DELIVERY within Singapore!

Go on, grab some for the kids, for gifts, or for yourself! I'll be stocking up!
