As it turned out, it really wasn't raining at the zoo. Instead, the overcast skies made it perfect for a zoo visit. It was cool and probably because others were scared off by the rain, it was uncrowded. Wow. The only dampener was the fact that we had picked the one Tuesday in the month that the Kidzworld water play area was closed. Just so you know, it's closed on the second Tuesday of the month for cleaning. I think the Mummies were actually glad that we didn't have to get wet.
It is a special treat going to the zoo this time with Anya because we were going to feed the giraffes. I think Noey was excited about it right up to the point where he up close and personal with the huge giraffes and their very long tongues! Then, he chickened out.
"I thought I saw a giraffe sneaking up somewhere..."
"Ack! There they are!"
After seeing their long tongues, Mummy is left to do the feeding.
Nomi, on the other hand, was perfectly nonchalant. She stepped up and fed all the giraffes instead.
I did suspect that she was really after the carrot sticks...
Noey redeemed himself with the goats, especially after I showed him how to rest the veg sticks against the grille and let the goats come up and eat them. He didn't want to go near the eager goats with their long tongues, not that I blamed him for that. The goats were mighty aggressive too, crashing against the gate with their horns and butting each other out of the way. We kept trying to feed the littlest ones but some of the bigger ones would force their way in.
Incidentally it was also the first time I've spent some time in the animal part Kidzworld. Usually when we get there, we're either tired out, or we head straight for the water play area. So maybe it was a blessing in disguise that the play area was closed.
Holding a cautious hand out.
"I did it!" he would proclaim each time after he successfully fed a goat.
Demonstrating how to eat like a goat.
That Tuesday was the first time I'd been to the zoo without DD, and with two kids in tow, even with my helper, it was... challenging. Nomi needed to sleep but was too excited to take a nap till she concussed at one point, 2 hours after her usual nap time. She also did a poop job at lunch, right after Noey merlioned half his lunch, the consequence of drinking too much juice too quickly. We were caught in a sudden downpour for a bit and had to take shelter in a nearby pavillion. Thankfully it let up enough for us to make it to the restaurant for lunch.
But it was a good trip. I got to catch up with my friends, and the little ones got to play with each other. It's quite a joy seeing them interact these days, even if it comprises mimicking each other and a lot of running around!
All smiles, now that the giraffes are not around!
Sharing a laugh, after YY finally arrived.
I think we were all utterly exhausted by the end of the
i totally agree with you :) The highlight for me every day is knowing where we are going and if we are staying in, what we are going to do ;)
