It is the Best Job in the World, It is the Worst Job in the World

Being a Mummy means:

* Opting to celebrate Mother's Day with a picnic in the park because you think the kids might enjoy it better, instead of celebrating some way you might enjoy better, like at a chi-chi high tea.

* Ordering Hawaiian Pizza and Penne Bolognaise for dinner because you know they'll be a hit with the kids.

* Feeding hungry little mouths first before having your dinner.
* Having all the pineapple on your piece of pizza happily picked off by your son. And not really minding it. Mostly.
* Not having much personal space after you're crowded out by the kids. Who still want to eat your food after they've had theirs.

But in return, you also:

* Get free entertainment.

* Enjoy bonus points if silly faces are your thing.

* Get to feel really loved, especially when both kids fight to squeeze up next to you on the limited space on your lap.

* Get to receive cute, handmade declarations of love.

I guess we're pretty even? (Hmmm, ok, not quite!)

Being a Mummy really is the best, the worst, the most terrifying, the most reassuring, the most rewarding, and the most thankless job in the world, all rolled into one. Fortunately for my kids, I love them too much to not take on the job.

This is a week late, but Happy Mothers' Day to all Mummies! All the presents and outpouring of love? You deserve it.
