Singapore Innovative Children's Festival 2013

It's good to be a child - and parent - in Singapore these days.  The June holidays are upon us and there are so many child-focused programmes that have been trotted out, it just blows me away. Think museums, shopping mall shows and meet-and-greets, arts and sport classes, theatre programmes and the like. We really are spoilt for choice.

We have as good as missed the first two weeks of the June holidays as a result of being away in the UK and recovering from our trip, but there's something interesting coming up next week that I will be checking out, and which I think will be interesting to parents, especially those with children between the ages of 7 months (yes, 7 months!) to 12 years of age: the Singapore Innovative Children's Festival 2013

There are a number of interesting performances and you can find the full list on their webpage here. Here are a few which I think might be worth watching:

The Magical Pond /  17th - 22nd June / $32 for 2 adults + 1 child -- This is a show that is designed specifically for babies aged 7 months to 18 months of age, which is quite a first. I am also quite intrigued by the concept of the show, where a parent and child will lie down on a mat "at the bottom of the pond" and watch a screen above them which will depict a magical pond. In this way, the audience is taken into the world of the magical pond where many surprises await! Each show only has 12 sets of mothers/fathers with their child so you can expect a pretty intimate show.

I am told that this is actually the world premiere of the piece before it leaves on an international tour. So we in Singapore will be the first to catch it! Every participant also receives a $50 goodie bag from Abbot Gain IQ, which sounds like a good deal to me!

It's a Bear Hunt / 19th to 21st June / $16 -- For kids aged 1-8 years of age, join The Kazoos, a popular children's entertainment act from Australia, as they go on a Bear Hunt! Deep in the forest not far from the Honey Trees and Bumble Bee Mountain, in search of some cuddly fluffy and fun bears we go! Promising to be interactive and full of music and dance, I think this is one that even the young ones would enjoy. I'm certainly planning on bringing my two!

The Balinese Princess and the Funky Monkey / 22nd and 23rd June / $37  -- A show for all ages really, even down to kids 2 years of age, this is a musical that has enjoyed 2 sellout sessions in Australia.

The story: When Queen Agung Dewi passes away, the loveable Little Princess Ayu and her best friend, Kren the money must save the magical kingdom of Bali, and the loveable forest moneys, from the terrible fiery Mount Agung before it's too late. When all hope seems lost, her Mother's spirit returns to help the Princess save her people.

I love musicals and this original theatre piece, which boasts a full cast and a crew of 15 people from Australia promises to be a great family experience.

And here's a special offer for all readers of this blog: A 2-for-the-price-of-1 offer for certain select shows!

Enjoy this super offer for The Balinese Princess and the Funky Monkey, It's a Bear Hunt and The Whole Brain Child Seminar by entering the code "2for1promo" when you check out.

Remember to check out www.sicf.com.sg to get your tickets and hopefully I'll see you at the festival!

  1. Yes, it is indeed good to be a parent/child in SG with the many different types of programmes during holidays!

Now it makes me realise, I need to save leave days to bring the Nats out on such outings during the school hols!
