A Father's Day Tribute

It was love at first sight for DD when he laid eyes on the newborn Noey.

He shrugged off advice he had heard from other well-meaning friends that fathers would take a longer time to bond with their baby than mothers, and was a doting father from the get go.

He gamely learnt the ropes of bathing Noey from the confinement nanny and took over the task of giving Noey his daily bath every morning in the early months. He gave Noey his night bottle feed when he could. He took over weekend morning duties so that I could have a couple more hours of sleep. He rushed home everyday after work just to scoop Noey up and hold him.

There's no place I'd rather rest my head than on my Papa

He sang and read endlessly, and of course, took many many photos of his beloved son.

Now, Papa is where all the fun is. He has the best games, and is often a ready participant in Noey's favourite hide-and-seek-and-peekaboo game where the hider would jump out and give the seeker a good scare just as he is about to find him. (Noey just loves a good scare.) He brings Noey for the longest walks himself, to give me a break, pointing out all the animals and birds they come across. He gives Noey his horse-rides, giraffe-rides, and lion-rides, which Noey always accepts with gleeful delight. He carries Noey a lot, even though Noey is perfectly capable of walking, just because he "loves to carry him" and occasionally sighs about how he wants to carry Noey as much as possible before Noey no longer wants to be carried.

And he still sings and reads endlessly, and continues to take many many photos of his beloved son.

Papa, the chief storyteller and book reader, at work.

But on top of all this, Papa is the one who leads us in family worship, tells the bible stories, teaches the bible lessons, makes Noey learn the commandments, and prays with Noey (and Mummy) each and every night.

For all these and more -- we have been blessed.

Happy Father's Day Papa! We love you!

2 candles to mark 2 years of fatherhood!

  5. thanks on DD's behalf!

ker :: oh, i didn't realise that aust celebrates it in sept! the same way england celebrates mother's day in march i guess. I had to buy cards and keep them till may to send to my mum.

candice :: he is indeed. daddies are the fun ones! mummy sadly has the more boring role of enforcing naps and making sure that the kid is fed and all the other parenting chores!
