Bringing in the Wrecking Ball

Complete and utter wreckage. That's the state of our new home at the moment.

The demolition team moved in on Monday and now there are piles of debris everywhere. Yikes. Our contractor is a little nervous about meeting the end-of-month completion deadline, but I think we are prepared to move in as long as the floor is done. We'll see how it goes.

In the meantime, on top of the fact that we're running around madly to try to get reno-related stuff sorted out as quickly as possible -- choosing marble, tiles, wood veneers and laminates, wallpaper, switches, toilet fittings, etc., we realise now that it is back to the drawing board for some thing because the demolition work has revealed BEAMS and other services in places which you really wouldn't expect them to be.

The grey wall hides risers which have foiled in our plans to open up the kitchen. We didn't expect them to extend the whole length of the wall we wanted to removed. Now it looks like my counter is going to be turned into a bigger fridge space. Sigh!

The Master Toilet, looking a lot small with everything out of it, than before. Strange, I always thought it would be the other way!

It's been a mad, busy, crazy few weeks.

I was about to throw up my arms in frustration when DD pulled out the Bible and pointed out to me that "except the Lord build the house, they labour in vain that build it." ~ Psalm 127:1

Indeed, that should be our attitude. The renos are entrusted in His hands.

I remember how hectic it was the last time when we renovated our current home, but how it was all worth it in the end. And I know I will feel the same way this time at the end of it all again.

  1. wow! that is MAJOR reno babe! you said just the floor... and then added the other bits... but this looks like more than that! whoa! a blank slate to start with - how exciting! :)

  2. it is mainly the floor plus the toilets! we ripped out the doors too so it looks at little more wrecked :) wish i really had a blank slate -- can't do much with the kitchen so my ideas for that are shot.
