In the midst of all the hustle and bustle of settling our renovation plans and the excitement of seeing our new place come together, I have not had much time to mourn the fact that we will soon be leaving our current home behind.
But it is slowly sinking in. It hit me particularly hard sometime last week when I came into the hall and saw Noey staring out of the window at the great greenery view which we have and the gardeners going about their tasks downstairs, and he turned to me and said:
"Like looking at the plants everyday."
That really wrenched at my heart, you know? Because while our new home will have more room and is set in a nice estate, the view from the windows really cannot compare. Noey will not have that many plants to look at. Instead we will face a neighbouring block on one side, and a vacant plot of land on the other. Not much of a view there.
But in return, he will get a balcony on which we will grow some plants -- on which he can grow his own plants -- to make up for it. That would help, wouldn't it?
I sometimes wonder: would he remember this place? His first home? The only home he has ever known up to this point? While I would like to think so, I think chances are that all he would have are the many photographs and our memories. It would live on in the stories we will tell him.
In the meantime, I plan to bring him downstairs more (the weather permitting) to enjoy the green spaces, the trains that roll by ever so often, the planes and copters which fly regularly overhead, and the random creatures (mostly bugs) which we come across during our regular walks.
The end has come just a little bit too soon. Yet I know, we will continue on to make more memories on the new walks that we will take here on after.
I know what you mean though to a lesser extent... nostalgia is such a sweet and salty feeling ain't it and our memories are inevitably bound with our surroundings... am sure you'll make incredibly wonderful new ones at your new home!
ReplyDeleteYes, having his own plants would be a wonderful experience for him! And you can always bring him to the park! Lovely! :)
ReplyDeleteHe'll have memories of it if you keep showing him photos and talk about the things you used to do together in this place. It's just like travelling when kids are very young. They cannot remember unless they keep getting reminded.
