华语 Cool?

Noey has been really into mixing it up with his English and Chinese. Of course he speaks English almost all the time, but occasionally he will say something in Chinese, and since his accent is all funny, it will completely confuse me. So much so that I've taken to asking him if he's speaking English or Chinese when I have no idea what he's saying.

Recently his favourite thing to do has been to mix some Chinese into his sentences, sometimes not too accurately.

Some of his classics include: "Want broom! Want broom to sweep the 肮脏!" and "Hey diddle diddle, the cat playing with the fiddle, the cow jumped over the 月亮."

Let's also not forget the very frequently heard "Dowan, dowan, dowan, 不要!!"

Yesterday he went one better with his own take of The Very Hungry Caterpillar:

"In the light of the 月亮, a leetle leetle 鸡蛋 lay on the leaf!"

(I think he was inspired by Sean's birthday to re-visit book, Debra!)

He looked really pleased with himself for coming up with that. This boy. He really cracks me up, time and time again.

  1. and you worry about him not being bilingual. Lol. Now I'm going to shoot down the next person who tells me bilingual kids start speaking slower with the example of Noey.
