Our New Resident

I don't know if it's just me but it feels like EVERYONE around me is pregnant these days. I even have 4 friends due in early Feb.

Well, guess what? I guess if you can't beat them, join them!

Say hello to the soon-to-be newest addition to the family, who has (already) been causing me sleepless nights:

The new bump, thus far uncreatively referred to as Baby #2, here at 12 weeks.

I'm currently around 14 weeks and Baby#2 is expected in early March next year. And I'm kidding about having having a baby just because everyone else is. We're delighted of course, since we're been thinking about adding to our family for a while. I blame all the cute babies around me! The timing wasn't great since I found out I was pregnant shortly before we were due to move, and continued to be rather nauseated and useless throughout the moving process. But maybe it has worked out well in the end cos we now have plenty of room to welcome a new baby.

This pregnancy isn't treating me too kindly. I was hopeful that it would be as easy or even easier than when I had Noey but my OB killed my hopes, telling me that statistically most women find their second pregnancy tougher than their first. It's still early days yet but I think that it seems to be the case for me. (Or possibly I've just conveniently forgotten about the difficult parts of my earlier pregnancy?) I do remember though that back when I had Noey, I was sleeping a lot in the first trimester. It'll be 9pm and I would be nodding off, much to DD's amusement. Well. That isn't happening this time round. Instead I've spent the last nearly 3 months having some form of insomnia -- I would fall asleep at a somewhat regular time, say 9+pm while putting Noey to bed, but I would wake up around 3am and be unable to fall asleep till nearly daybreak. Of course Noey would wake up shortly thereafter and drag me out of bed, and I would remain in a sleep-deprived mode for most of the day till night-time when the cycle repeats itself. It doesn't help if I sleep later either -- I would still be roused in the middle of the night and not be able to go back to sleep. And if I don't fall asleep putting Noey to bed, my most awake hours appear to be between 10pm-12am when I feel all full of beans and AWAKE. It's been incredibly frustrating. I'm only praying that this does not mean that Baby#2 doesn't like to sleep!

They say that you show much earlier the second time round and it has certainly been the case for me.

Here I am, 12-weeks-going-on-20-weeks

My tummy is embarrassingly huge this time round! Whereas I recall only being able to see some kind of a bump at close to 20 weeks the last time round, this time I've had lots of people congratulating me and reacting with some surprise when I tell them that I'm barely out of the first trimester. Oops. Even at 8 weeks, my Mum looked at me and asked "why your tummy so huge ah?". Gee, I dunno Mum. Lazy pre-stretched abdominal muscles that are just too glad to let it all hang loose?

Anyway, it's interesting, though going through the first trimester nausea and general bleah-ness is making me re-think about wanting more kids. And I know I don't even have it that bad. At least I have an appetite and can mostly hold my food down! We'll just take 2 first and see how that goes shall we?

dreamlivelaugh :: hi! thanks for dropping a note and congrats on your pregnancy :) must admit it is probably more fun as a 1st-time mum -- more to shop and buy. hee.

  21. Hey I have it worse the second time round too. AND FINALLY!! Someone finally understands my insomnia. The preggers around me are wondering why I have insomnia when most of them are sleeping like there's no tomorrow.

You can do it babe. Luckily you're still on part time plan. Do let me know the gender ASAP too!!
