Port of Lost Wonder

By now I'm sure you've heard of the latest attraction to open on Sentosa - Port of Lost Wonder. (POLW)

We were just wondering when it was going to open about a month ago when we tramped past the hoardings at Sentosa. So I was very excited when I heard news of its opening. Imagine my delight when I managed to score tickets for the whole family to the opening preview on 14 Apr!

We even decided to make a staycation of it, at the spur of the moment, and booked ourselves a room for the weekend at Rasa Sentosa.

Unfortunately, Naomi knew that something was up, with all the packing and activity at home, and refused to take her morning nap. When we got to POLW, she wilted in the bright sunshine and didn't last too long. Which was a pity for her because the place was really amazing!

There was the water playground, with the pirate ship as its centrepiece, a sand play area, a foam pool, an area for potting plants, a restaurant, a retail shop, and some space for shows and story-telling, amongst other things. There was simply plenty to see and do.

With at least 3 slides (maybe more?), lots of sprays, wheels to turn, levers to pull and a huge bucket of water swooshing down from the top every once in a while.

Noey was super excited but became a little overwhelmed when we got there. He played around with the water features and enjoyed the cannons spraying water, though not as much when they were pointed at him. He was persuaded down a slide or two, got nervous at the huge bucket of water that poured down from the top of the ship, and begged to go do some sand play instead.

And since POLW was on Palawan Beach, they couldn't possibly not have sand, right? I was happy to discover a rather large sand play area near one end of the site, just beyond the picnic area. They even helpfully provided some sand toys and a big inflated ring that the kids had some fun rolling around. I like that there was a tap for water too - handy or sandcastle making - though it wasn't working that day. Noey visibly lit up and spent a good 20 minutes messing around. He would have gone on for longer, but by then the dark clouds had gathered and the occasional rumble of thunder sounded pretty ominous. So I hustled him off the sand and back under the shade.

The rain did hold up for a while - at least long enough for us to take a good look around. Noey looked yearningly at the foam pool, but they were closed after the earlier session. I made a mental note to bring him down another day to try it out. We also took a look around the plant potting area, where for $20 you can get to plant and take home a plant in an adorable kid's wellington boot. They also had interesting plants growing around the area, including real strawberries! I'm not sure how long those would last in our tropical climate though.

With the kids' naps looming, and the rain threatening to come down, we decided to call it a day before long. I later heard there were kid's activities, including animal shows indoors, so they do have a wet weather programme. We'll definitely be back to check out the place again soon.

The rates are pretty decent: $8 for weekdays, $15 for weekends. One-time entry and only the kids have to pay. Adults get in with a hug from their child. That's cheaper than most playgyms I think! They are having a 20% discount on rates now as their opening special so this is the time to go check it out!
