Just as I was telling you how much I tried to avoid queuing for mall shows, whaddya know, I go do it again!
The Dinosaur Train rolled into town at Marina Square and well, we just had to catch it. Both my kids love this series, Nomi obviously as a result of Noey's influence. "Saur-saur Train!" she would exclaim. It's one of Noey's all-time favs. After all, it combines both his favourites -- trains AND dinosaurs. What's there not to love right?
Unfortunately Nomi's been rather under the weather, so only Noey and I made the trip on Wednesday. Boy, was he excited! I decided to be a bit kiasu, so we arrived about an hour before showtime. After ascertaining the the queue wasn't too long (hurray!), I dragged Noey off to have a look-around the retail area. Of course there was plenty of Dinosaur Train merchandise on sale to entice him.
But the boy refused to be distracted for long and insisted that we get in line. I didn't have a choice. All my warnings about it being a long wait fell on deaf ears and I was soon having to answer repeated questions of when the show was going to start from an excited little boy.
Fortunately they didn't make us wait too long before letting us into the sitting area. And as a bonus, we even managed to snag a Meet and Greet pass as one of the first 50 families in line. Yay.
And it was showtime!
One of the performers came on-stage and got the kids to shout, stamp, jump, and roar like a dinosaur. That got everyone hyped up before the story began proper. As usual, Noey was hesitant to participate, but he started smiling happily when the characters he recognised came on stage.
The show was a musical with plenty of song and dance numbers with these three characters going to look for King, a Cryolophosaurus who composed the original Dinosaur Train theme song. I hadn't watched the episode with King before watching this musical -- he appears in Volume 8 of the DVDs -- and was tickled when I realised he was modelled on Elvis! I guess the curled crest on his head inspired comparisons with Elvis, resulting in the dinosaur sounding like, well, the King.The connection was obviously lost on Noey.
It was a typical kiddy show, but I quite enjoyed it, no thanks to the amount of Dinosaur Train I've watched! I could recognise quite a few of the songs and could encourage Noey to sing along.
It was over pretty quickly. Noey, who was his usual nervous self during showtime immediately asked me why it was so short, so I guess he enjoyed himself too.
At least we got a picture with the whole gang as a souvenir.
The Dinosaur Train Adventure Live Musical is on till this Sunday, 16 Dec 2012 at the Atrium at Marina Square. Show times are at 1pm, 4pm and 7pm over the weekends.
When I first read the title, I thought that it was a literal train. Haha... this is how much I know about the Dinosaur Train.
