Anniversary Sanctuary

I think all this time that I've not been updating, the person who has missed my blog the most is my husband. Which is pretty funny since he's with me all the time! That hasn't stopped him from clicking on to this blog and looking at me reproachfully while complaining that it's "still the same post!".

So it's probably apt that I mark the revival of this blog with a post on a significant event for us.

This weekend we celebrated our 2nd wedding anniversary. Being the last minute folk that we are, by the time we decided that we could probably squeeze out a non-leave-taking weekend getaway, all the hotels we checked out on Bintan (our original intended destination) were full. And after a consideration of other possible nearby destinations didn't seem to yield many positive results, we decided that we would just stick with good ol' Sentosa. Besides, I was very interested in checking out the newest hotel on the island.

A few clicks and a promo rate later, we were headed to the Amara Sanctuary.

It was a new hotel and it showed, so service was patchy at times. Quite a number of the staff appeared to be foreigners who didn't seem to be completely comfortable with English, and at times they seemed a bit lost or unsure when carrying out their tasks. And there were the small things, like the lack of towel hooks in the bathroom which left us struggling to find somewhere to hang our towels which reminded us that the hotel was still not 100% put together yet. These are part of the teething issues which I believe will be sorted out in time. But other than these, it a lovely hotel - the rooms were beautiful, the grounds were well landscaped and the overall garden feel was just what we needed for a quiet weekend break. And it was just a short walk to the beach. It would have been better if not for the construction going on next door - somehow a crane does not a tranquil image make! But at least we wouldn't say the same thing about the room.

And so we whiled away most of our Saturday and Sunday, splashing in the pools, wandering around Palawan Beach, munching snacks and basically being with each other. Including the time we've been dating, it's been a while that we've been together, but it's still his company that I crave. And I know it's because he lets me be me. And he gets me, even as he laughs over how I would spend money (and what would be a shocking amount to him) freely and frivolously on many things but I MUST get my small freebies, like not having to pay $4 for entry into Sentosa for the both of us, and would go to great lengths to get them.

Every day, I am reminded that there is no one else I would rather be with. Us in our happy little family of 2 :) Happy Anniversary Dear.
