36 Weeks and Counting

As usual I'm behind in posting this so I'm really into the 37th week as we speak.

We passed the 36th week milestone without any issues and with that, Little Being is officially full-term and can arrive any day. But I guess he's thus far been kind to his as yet not 100% fully prepared parents by remaining snugly in the womb. During our visit to Dr Wong's, she assessed Little Being as being "unlikely to arrive within the next 2 weeks" and so far that seems to be the case. Our not-so-little babe has in the meantime grown bigger and was estimated at 2.8kg during our last visit. Dr Wong has just about given up trying to manage his weight and it looks like he may be genetically pre-disposed to being a big baby -- currently he's on track to being around 3.6kg at birth. Yikes. Guess we'll worry about that when it comes time for delivery!

Even as he seems to be doing ok, I on the other hand am HUGE. Even with the cough I was nursing (which I'm happy to report has mostly subsided), I still put on weight in this last month when folks typically slow down on the weight gain! Sigh. On the plus side, baby is now engaged and therefore heartburn (which has been the BANE of my pregnancy) seems to hit me somewhat less often. I still can't take any orange juice at night and curries are still a no-no, but I've not had to sleep upright as much. I was just about getting used to sleeping sitting up! On the downside, I now have greater difficulty walking -- standing after sitting down for a while is especially painful -- and I can't turn in my sleep without waking up. DD's being enlisted more frequently to rub my shoulder in the morning to manage the ache that would have developed if I didn't move all night.

But overall I'm glad baby has made it thus far safely. It won't be too long before we see him! And while we look forward to the day, we've been trying to spend more time, just the 2 of us, having dinners out and just talking as we adjust to the fact that couple time may be more infrequent in the coming days. I guess I feel a tinge of resignation over that even as the excitement over having a new member to our little family builds. It's the passing of a phase in our lives and in many ways, we can't wait. Keep safe, Little Being, till we meet.

it's good to hear that Little Being is eating well inside you. He maybe a little heavy right now to handle but once he's out, you would appreciate a bigger baby cos easier to carry. Rest more while you can and yes indulge in couple time and dinners at posh restaurants!
