Baby Shower

As previously reported, we haven't been too efficient with the baby shopping. The couple of bigger ticket items we did settle at least when the Taka Baby Fair rolled around were the cot and the stroller. These we got over the National Day weekend and were a load off my mind at that time!

DD stressed a bit over the fact that the stroller was not quite the colour one would have chosen for a little boy, being a very sweet peach colour. But in the end we figured that no son of ours should be restricted by colour stereo-typing. Heh. Besides, his mummy here loves pink so he might as well get used to it! In truth the stroller didn't come in any other colour and after fiddling with a variety of other models, we found that this was our favourite in terms of weight, build, look and function. (Just not price! Haha.) So that's what we got and now I'm looking forward to pushing it around -- with Little Being in it of course.

Guess we would have plodded along in our slow way, except that our dear friends stepped in to help out by throwing us a baby shower last weekend. Dear Daph offered to organise everything, and together with my sis, they had us, friends and family down at Swirl Gelateria for an afternoon of chatter, baby-talk and free-flow gelato. As you can imagine, ice-cream eating me was very happy about the unlimited gelato!

(And yes, this is the baby shower BEFORE the baby comes. My parents expressed surprise at this, to which I told them it is of the "ang-moh" variety which is thrown by a friend and not the couple, unlike our more usual 1st month celebrations. A bit of a culture shock for my folks me thinks. Heh.)

Together with the almost-too-cute-to-eat cupcakes from Lil' Missy Cupcake (thanks Lilsnooze for the recommendation!), we enjoyed a sweet afternoon. These cupcakes hit the right spot by the way, being as yummy as they looked. Ensie, on Daph's egging, came up with one game where guests had to choose whom baby should inherit a list of attributes from, Daddy or Mummy, which threw up amusing results. DD was particularly indignant when everyone voted unanimously for Little Being to have Mummy's eyes. Haha. David won in the end, with his list most closely matching one DD and I completed. This despite him trying diplomatically to declare the "intelligence" option - (ie. whether baby should have Daddy or Mummy's intelligence) - a "trick question". Other than that, everyone had fun browsing the baby book of names and generally enjoying conversation.

And there were of course the presents! An activity playmat, really cute Addidas shoes, bedding, towels, diapers, breastfeeding shawls, blankets, small clothing... All very helpful for the clueless parents-to-be that we are! And the centrepiece? A gorgeous diaper cake from DD's cousins.

Till that Sat, I'd never seen one before and though I'd heard of the term, I didn't know what it was. It turned out to be diapers (duh!) and other stuff creatively packaged together into a "cake"! Sadly after taking out the tulle wrapping I forgot to take a good shot of the 4-tiered cake -- the above is the best shot I got. But as you can tell from the website, they're gorgeous! I'm so looking to order one for the next friend who has a baby!

So anyway, it was a lovely afternoon to be had by all and now I THINK we've in slightly better shape for Little Being's arrival. Don't come too quickly just yet ok baby? We've still got some way to go to be ready for you!

(More pics here, if you're my friend on Facebook.)
