A Sneak Peek at KidsFest 2014

On the Saturday just past, the kids were treated to a sneak peek into KidsFest 2014.

This popular festival, which showcases international theatre productions adapted from best-selling children's books, will be into it's third run here in Singapore from 15 January to 9 February 2014, and it promises to be bigger and better than before. There will be nine different productions being staged, including some of my kids' favourite books like The Gruffalo, The Gruffalo's Child, and We're Going on a Bear Hunt, to name a few. I had in fact considered catching We're Going on a Bear Hunt in London when we were there on holiday in May/June but could not fit it into our schedule. Needless to say, the kids were stoked to see it on the programme!

KidsFest 2014 will also see the introduction of KidsFest+, an exclusive backstage experience on scheduled dates for selected productions where fans can interact up close with the cast over an autograph or photo session. This is only available on certain selected dates so be sure to check out the KidsFest+ schedule I've listed at the bottom of this post if you're interested to take advantage of this.

We'd rushed over the the British Club on Saturday morning for this event, and Noey gamely jumped into the thick of the action upon arrival, joining in the games -- creeping like the Gruffalo's child, slithering like the snake, and scurrying like the Big Bad Mouse.

The kids then settled down to listen to a reading of The Gruffalo's Child

KidsFest2Rapt attention. As you can see, Noey managed to squeeze his way right in front.

KidsFest3Never content to just listen to a story without looking at the words and pictures.

The kids had just finished the story when who should make a surprise appearance but The Gruffalo's Child -- in the flesh! The kids were so surprised they didn't know how to react, much to the parents' amusement. They were plenty pleased to dish out the high-fives though.

We were then treated to a short performance before the kids could approach the Gruffalo's Child for some pics.

KidsFest5Who's afraid of th Big Bad Mouse? Not us!

They met Henry VIII too. Noey was amused when I pointed out that it we'd "met" Henry VIII (the wax figure!) in Warwick Castle when we were there in June, though obviously this was a different dude. Henry VIII is part of the cast for Horrible Histories Terrible Tudors, and I would dearly love to catch this, though I think it might be a bit lost on my kids and better appreciated by older children.

KidsFest6Meips is wary of Henry VIII, and rightly so!

I'm likely to bring the kids to watch either The Gruffalo's Child or We're Going on a Bear Hunt or What the Ladybird Heard. If the kids had their way, it'd be all and more! They really are excited. See you in 2014, KidsFest!
